People tend to think someone else will save them, we all seem to think we can depend on others to come and save us, including the government, EMT’s, Police, Firefighters, tax preparers, banks, friends, family etc. The truth is that we live in a false sense of safety and reality.
We can depend on help from those mentioned above sometimes, when things are not in a state of emergency, for anyone other than you. But once there is a large scale disaster or incident of some kind, when you REALLY need the help, it’s unlikely you will get the help you think you should get or that you are entitled to.
The minute things so sideways, like during a hurricane, mass-flooding, tsunami, mass-shooting or as we’re learning now, a worldwide pandemic and shut in orders, you are no longer a priority and you are now at the very bottom of the list for help. And please, don’t take my word for it, ask the survivors of Hurricane Katrina back in 2005. There were bodies in the streets and gutters. The hospitals were flooded and there was no one there to take care of the injured, and there were bodies lining the halls of the hospitals as well. Something out of a horrible movie.
People turned psycho and started shooting families that were stranded on their roof tops because of the flood. People were getting shot and killed when they were trying to get help. How’s that for a helping hand?
What about financial help?
Do you think banks are here for you to keep your money safe? As we learned during the 2008 housing crisis, no, you’re not a priority at all. The entire banking industry has only one priority, themselves. Period.
Why do you think the banks were closed when everyone went to get their money? They shut the doors, closed the banks, and told everyone there was no money. Everyone’s savings were gone in a blink of an eye. And there was nothing you could do about it. But did the executives get paid? Yes, they did, they even got a bailout from the government.
So they got paid, they got their return, but we still lost our homes, savings and investments. And the rich were not even saved. They lost their money too.
So tell me again who you think is there for you? Who do you think will come and save you? And who are you again? Are you a bank executive? A hospital director? A police chief? A mayor, a CEO? If you’re one of these kinds of people, then yes, you might get some help, but if you’re not, and you’re just an everyday person with a normal job, guess what? You’re on your own. And you need to get your head around that pronto! If you don’t’ understand this simple fact, you’ll be left without resources when you need it the most.
Now when things are normal, when there is no crisis, yes, you will get rescued if you get lost hiking. Search and rescue will try to find you and give you help. The paramedics, the EMT’s will come for you if cal 911, it’s true.
But we don’t prepare for normal times do we? We don’t really need extra help during normal times. Our lives are not on the line during normal times.
Are lives are however on the line during natural or man-made disasters, and apparently even during a pandemic.
I think the gun argument here in the US is funny for one reason alone. Because when my life is threatened, the police will not be there to save me.
They’ll certainly be there to take the report of me being killed by a home invader or mugger, that’s not a problem. They will be there after the fact to arrest the bad guy, to make him pay for my death. Oh wait, but I was already killed! That sucks. I don’t want to be killed by a bad guy. He’s arrested, but I’m dead. Not my idea of a fair deal.
So the cops have the guns and the bad guys have the guns, where does that leave me? Hoping no bad buy will try to hurt me and my family and hoping a cop will magically show up the second a bad guy points his gun at me? I have a better idea. Why don’t I just be prepared for such an incident? Simple, but effective.
So again, no one is going to be there for you when you really need it.
What’s the point you might ask, or what’s the solution?
Help yourself, get ready for anything that comes your way. Prepare. That is the solution.
Just like if you’re taking a test in school, you prepare right? Why not prepare for something that might take your life or the lives of your loved ones?
